The Take Away

Skateboarding, Space and The City, teaches the reader more than just one simple thing about skateboarding or architecture. This book will teach the reader about everything from the history of skateboarding and its culture, to how architecture affects every day life, to how a sport can globalize and change the lives of many. Using architecture for something other than its intended purpose should not cause problems, but unfortunantly, some people believe it does. This has lead to changes in architecture that make the urban environment more unifrom and less creative. The main take away should be that we all, not just skaters, use architecture in an urban environment. Some of us use it for its intended purposes, and a creative few have learned to take these normal things and make them extraordinary. These next level thinkers would be applauded if their creativity was on a canvas, not the streets. But, unfortunantly, these creative ones are being "shut down" and steps have been made to stop their creative expression. Even with everyone against us, skaters will keep going. Urban change has never stopped, and will never stop, skateboarders from adapting what they love to fit new urban environments and new cultures.
